A cute bear and a girl submitted by r-chopra on August 16, 2012, 9:08pm This the book which we hv read so many times. So cute story.

Classic story of a teddy bear who wants a friend submitted by valeriemates on July 20, 2013, 6:43pm This is a children's classic book about a teddy bear named Corduroy who lives in a department store. A little girl named Lisa spots him and wants to buy him, but her mother points out that he is missing a button. So they go home without him -- and Corduroy is inspired to go off on an adventure around the department store, searching for his missing button. The story ends happily, when Lisa comes back the next day, buys him, brings him home, and sews on a button for him.

Lisa and her mom are black -- I love that this book makes no fuss at all about that.

Corduroy submitted by SBNB on June 17, 2014, 7:12pm Cute book about a department store bear that’s missing a button. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid.

cute submitted by kate uleman on August 9, 2014, 7:19pm sweet heart warming story good story for ages 2-6

Corduroy submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on June 28, 2015, 8:02pm A simple but absorbing story for kids. As a child who couldn't have a pet (allergies) and was obsessed with my stuffed toys, I loved the Corduroy books. This story about the child and bear finding each other always made me happy and made me think my favorite toy had a similar story.

Sweet submitted by jackson.sarah.jean on February 19, 2016, 8:41pm Simply follow this bear as he wants a friend, needs a button and is brought to a new home where he is accepted for the way he is. This is a sweet book with a child of color as a main character (wonderful).

A must read submitted by willow on August 31, 2016, 8:27pm This story is fairly simple, but the love of the girl and bear for one another, combined with Courduroy's wild midnight adventure, make for a thoroughly charming book.

Timeless favorite submitted by lballard on August 8, 2018, 5:48am A beautiful book which has a nice message about love existing despite imperfections.

Classic submitted by kathscot on July 14, 2019, 2:14pm A classic story about a girl and her bear. Interesting urban setting.

Love this book submitted by if2byu on July 23, 2019, 8:12pm This is one of my favorite books from childhood. I now enjoy reading it with the children.

Awesome submitted by aamasud on July 19, 2020, 9:35pm Sweet heart warming story for babies

A book that stands the test of time submitted by robinpollak on August 4, 2022, 7:29pm This book is about a slightly damaged teddy bear waiting to be purchased from the toy section in a department store. It's delightful to read with children about how the world looks from the perspective of the toy bear. I also love how the girl who decides to buy the bear (named Corduroy) sees past superficial "flaws" to connect with the toy, asserts her own preferences, and makes her own plan to take action with her own resources. And, it's awesome that the girl in the story is a person of color. Sometimes little things about a book go out of tune over the decades, but this one has stayed strong. Every time I read it to my kids I feel good about all the different ways that it's giving them nudges to see the world creatively and positively.

Classic submitted by czadams on August 28, 2022, 1:23pm Such a cute story of finding belonging and honoring differences. He learns he is loveable even without the button. Such a sweet message.

Love submitted by akrieg15 on July 25, 2023, 8:42am I loved this story as a little girl and love reading it to my son.

Finding what is truly valuable submitted by Diananana on August 16, 2023, 8:19pm I was a teenager when Corduroy was published, so didn't have a chance to enjoy it as a child. I've shared it with my own and numerous other children. It's such a heartwarming story, embodying the values of friendship and home. Corduroy's adventure in the department store adds humor. This story is a classic. You should read it..
