The spank always confused me, too, but the story has endured none-the-less.

quack quack

very good

A cruel, awful story.

I liked it when Ping found his family.

It's been a favorite since my own childhood and it's difficult to say why. The drawings are wonderful. I think we identify with Ping, who doesn't want to be the last duck back and get spanked. And then poor Ping gets in even worse trouble. It is a simple story, but beautifully done. A picture book worth your read-aloud time.
