Chronology -- Introduction -- Further reading -- Note on the text -- Count of Monte Cristo -- Notes.
Overview: Alexandre Dumas's novel of justice, retribution, and self-discovery - one of the most enduringly popular adventure tales ever written - appears here in a newly revised translation. "This novel tells the story of Edmond Dantes, wrongfully imprisoned for life in the supposedly impregnable sea fortress the Chateau d'If. After a daring escape, and after unearthing a hidden treasure revealed to him by a fellow prisoner, he devotes the rest of his life to tracking down and punishing the enemies who wronged him. "This newly edited version of the original nineteenth-century English translation speeds the narrative flow while retaining all the essential details of Dumas's intricately plotted and thrilling masterpiece.

Great submitted by Annarborkaren on June 17, 2017, 9:49am The book and movie were amazing!

One of my favorites! submitted by evie2017 on August 25, 2017, 6:55pm One of my favorite books of all time! Dumas writes an excellent plot that kept me gripped the whole time. The themes of this classic tale are still seen in today's media so it's well worth reading this book to see where it all began.

Classic submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 8:14pm One of the greatest stories ever told. There is just SO MUCH going on here...

The Count of Monte Cristo submitted by LilQuinn on June 29, 2019, 8:05pm Of course this is a classic and thus well worth your time, but if you want some more info, the main things are: It's very interesting from a character development and psychology point of view, including in a Sherlock-Holmes-esque how do people know things and how are people manipulated sense. It's got plenty of good intrigue, but it does slow down considerably in the middle/end area. Also, the main focus isn't the socio-political circumstances, but it does give one some insight into the time period. (Napoleon, social status, etc.)

Best Classic Ever! submitted by elsasan on June 14, 2021, 7:54am I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

The Count of Monte Cristo submitted by SBNB on June 12, 2022, 1:30pm Of all the books I was forced to read in high school English, this is the only one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I love how all the pieces come together in his plots of vengeance. It's a great read!

Love Love Love submitted by kingcheetah on July 1, 2022, 11:27am I've read this book so many times through and each time you pick up new subtleties and intricacies of the plot!
