Genuinely great submitted by marielle on July 2, 2011, 12:35pm Jurassic Park is one of those books with so much hubbub around it it's difficult to assess the book itself. For one, there is the enormous popularity of the movie. For another, everyone loves dinosaurs (in part because of the enormous popularity of the movie.)

However, I feel confident in saying this is a genuinely good book. And I didn't even like the movie... or dinosaurs. The book itself is both incredibly smart and enjoyable. And while you may get action from the movie, what you won't get is the deep discussions of chaos theory and genetics. I'd recommend this book to anyone who can read.

Even Better Than The Movie submitted by Chris82 on July 30, 2011, 11:27pm This is probably Michael Crichton's greatest book. Its well written, fun, and even contains some actual science. In my opinion its even better than the movie.

Worth the read submitted by steveiew on August 16, 2015, 10:15am As a big fan of the movie I was a little nervous to read the book, but I was not disappointed. There were a number of differences between the book and the movie that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen.

I re-read it 23 years later and it's still great submitted by jhaiduce on July 28, 2016, 3:18pm I first read this book way back in 1993, and re-read it this summer. I remembered a lot of philosophical content about the nature of science and its role in society...while that stuff is there, it doesn't play as big a role as I remembered. I also noticed a couple subtle literary flaws that escaped my notice the first time around. But on the whole it's a really great book, one of the best science fiction books I've ever read, and very entertaining. Just as good the second time around.

Try reading the book shortly before or after watching the movie. You'll notice all kinds of subtle differences...differences in who says what, the kinds of computers they use, how the buildings are built. It's fascinating to see how many things were changed without losing sight of the main points of the story.

dare I say it? submitted by KOH on August 30, 2017, 9:59pm I adore MC, but in this case, the movie is actually better than the book!

Great read submitted by blue77rose on July 23, 2018, 3:47pm So much better than the film! This is an amazing read!

So much fun! submitted by Team_ROX on July 23, 2018, 4:28pm As a dinosaur lover few books got me more excited than this one. I loved at the time virtually unknown dinosaurs like velociraptors and dilophosaurs becoming nearly household names, even if there were liberties taken with the creatures’ physiology. An exciting book, one I’ve read more than once. It also got me very interested in the rest of the works of Michael Crichton.

As good as the movie submitted by mbsymes on August 15, 2018, 5:26pm Typically books are better than their movies, in this case they both are great, though in different ways. This book delves more into Malcolms perspective and chaos theory than the movie did which makes the narrative compelling in a unique way to the movie. It varies enough from the movie to be worth reading too if you're concerned it will be boring it is not by any means. It's sequel is worth reading too, much better than it's movie.

Fantastic submitted by lstorc on August 31, 2018, 1:29am The snow level was so gripping that one may be entitled to finish it and just two days.

A great read submitted by Aimless on July 29, 2019, 5:19pm If possible read it BEFORE watching any of the movies

great submitted by kevinhe on August 3, 2019, 7:36pm such a great dinosaur book and so great for the movie.

Loved this book! submitted by karenarini on August 16, 2019, 6:41pm Every dinosaur lover must read! ;)

One of my favorites submitted by mmohal on July 17, 2021, 8:18am I love this book and it's one of my all-time favorites. It's classic Chrichton. Group of folks from different walks of life enter a violent scenario, only some make it at the end, and a great mystery is revealed. I will say that this book and it's sequel are far more violent than the movies if it's relevant.

Pretty good read submitted by mtebo on June 15, 2022, 11:55am I grew up watching Jurassic Park all the time, and it's my favorite movie, so I had high expectations when I read this book. It was fairly enjoyable, but I actually liked the movie better, and that's not something I've ever said before! There's too much science jargon that pulls you out of the story. It's actually more like a 3/5 for me, but I gave it a 4/5 solely for the nostalgia I felt while reading it.

Amazing submitted by cats13 on July 29, 2022, 5:59pm This book is extremely captivating and you will never want to put it down. Even though dinosaurs are extinct, the story makes you wonder what would happen if they weren’t totally?

pretty good submitted by Sahni on July 30, 2022, 5:03am such a great book
