Solar System submitted by SBNB on August 6, 2015, 10:20pm The Magic School bus books were some of my favorites when I was a kid. I couldn’t get enough of them. The stories are fun and the information within the story and on the side is very interesting. This particular one was one of my favorites.
Informative and fun submitted by VanCancue on June 27, 2018, 9:35pm This book was educational and imaginative. lots of fun.
A little bit outdated, still good submitted by FordAlpha on August 12, 2019, 9:20pm The "Magic School Bus" books, particularly the first few by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen, are great introductions to science, nature, and technology topics for kids. "Lost in the Solar System" is one of the best known and typifies the blend of humor, outlandish fantasy, and science facts found throughout the series. Some of the information is outdated, though not fatally so. It would be nice to see this particular book updated with information about newly discovered trans-Neptunian objects, Pluto's reclassification, and new knowledge about asteroids, comets, Mars, and more.
Very enjoyable submitted by PharmRach on June 12, 2021, 7:06pm This has one of the most fun and classic story lines of the magic school bus books, and really show such a fun and creative way to get kids learning about outer space. Can’t say enough good things about Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen!
Interplanet Janet submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 10:12am This is one of the best classic Magic School Bus adventures and one of my favorites from childhood, though this particular edition includes a more up-to-date description of poor demoted Pluto (which was a fully fledged planet in my edition). Arnold’s hilariously stuck-up cousin Janet, visiting for the day from another school, gives this particular installment of the series an additional dose of self-referential humor that works on several levels and provides an additional dimension to the story. The main storyline itself is standard fare for the series, with Ms. Frizzle taking her class on an unexpected adventure and their subsequent reports providing factual information about their various destinations. The series really does make science fun and accessible, and the indomitable Frizz holds up really well over time.
