Tricky but good submitted by Steph on July 12, 2011, 2:36pm I found this one of the trickier Poirot mysteries. It really causes you to rethink the suspects. Yet, for the same reason why I find so many Christie mysteries delightful, it is also not impossibly hard to guess whodunit.

You'll never guess the twist submitted by audreyh on June 12, 2015, 12:36pm This is one of Christie's best known books, and for a good reason. The twist at the end is incredibly smart and imaginative. I also think this is one of the best novels for Poirot, his character really shines in this book.

Poirot without Hastings submitted by pk on August 9, 2017, 3:33pm Poirot has "retired" and Hastings is off living in Argentina. But he won't stay retired for long. The niece of the murdered man asks Poirot to find the truth (not the police, as the "details" section above says). Classic Christie, but with a different twist. We see shades of Miss Marple in the doctor's sister, as well. Very enjoyable.

The murder of Roger ackroyd submitted by Lisa Parsons on June 15, 2018, 10:49pm I am digging the Agatha Christie books

don't listen to BBC radio adaptation for this one! submitted by camelsamba on August 2, 2018, 5:25pm I have been listening to BBC Radio adaptations of the Poirot mysteries and they are generally delightful, as you would expect from such an august organization. However, for this title the BBC production detracted from my opinion of the story. The production values were lower than others and some of the actors sounded wooden. Summaries of the actual novel imply it was ground-breaking – or at least in establishing Christie's reputation. I didn't get that feeling from the adaptation.

A fun ride submitted by mseymour on June 14, 2019, 1:46pm I had never read a mystery book before, but this one got me hooked on the genre

read over listen submitted by VanCancue on August 16, 2020, 11:21am I was glad for the tip about not listening to BBC radio version which is typically what I do. I didnt get the impression from the BBC radio adaptation that it was ground breaking either. Wish I had read this review before.

Avoid Spoilers for This One AT ALL COSTS submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2021, 9:46am I highly recommend that readers go into this without having it spoiled; though I knew the book was a highly acclaimed classic, I am so glad that I was able to discover its secrets in due time and I highly look forward to revisiting it now that I know what it is, exactly, that makes it so brilliant. The book finds Poirot in retirement, and he takes on his new neighbor as a post-Hastings civilian sidekick (who also narrates the story); Dr. Sheppard comes with better detective instincts and a delightful sister, whose role as the village gossip provides crucial information and humorous asides in equal measure. Christie does an excellent job of characterizing each suspect, and the book is a delight even apart from its famous conclusion. Every mystery fan, and everyone who appreciates linguistic cleverness, should read this.

Amazing submitted by kathscot on August 5, 2021, 4:11pm Christie is an amazing plotter and this mystery is one of her best. Bet you won't guess whodunnit!

One of Agatha Christie's Best Classics submitted by ekjensen on August 27, 2022, 1:52pm Hercule Poirot obviously solves the case as observes and interviews an ensemble of suspects with close relationships with the wealthy R. A. No spoiler alert, but when during your reading of the book will you know the killer suspect?
