Winner of England's Booker Prize, a coast-to-coast bestseller, and the literary sensation of the year, Possession is a novel of wit and romance, at once an intellectual mystery and a triumphant love story. Revolving around a pair of young scholars researching the lives of two Victorian poets, Byatt creates a haunting counterpoint of passion and ideas.

Not a big fan of romantic poetry, I definitely struggled through the poetic passages concerning Christabel and Ash.
The experience of reading the book was not an easy one, but at the end, I found it impossible not to be swept away by the beauty of this novel.
A great read submitted by teri on August 13, 2016, 12:02pm I too struggled through parts of the poetry - but Byatt has a way with words. This was a magical journey, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. If you happened to see the movie, the book is so much better!

Lovely and academic romance submitted by tuttlium on July 21, 2023, 9:11am Great story, touching romance. She captures exactly how academics might fall into a romance -- so cautious and intellectualizing everything. So sweet when it finally happens.
