Musically Surprising submitted by Meginator on June 22, 2020, 5:35pm Being primarily familiar with Blondie’s biggest singles, I was surprised by the underlying edge on their debut album, characterized by a heavier take on classic pop rock from the 1960s. The core is built on surf rock, of all things, but Blondie takes it in a different direction entirely, owing not a little to the burgeoning punk movement while remaining more on the pop side of the spectrum. The whole album feels far ahead of its time and it holds up really well; it’s also always refreshing to hear female vocalists in a rock context, and Debbie Harry is consistently excellent.
