COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Classic Beatles, often overlooked. submitted by Luisa Scavo on July 24, 2014, 8:44am This early album predates the international calamity over the fab four, but lacks none of the enthusiasm or good musical sense that made them internationally beloved.

Beatles submitted by tbbrown76 on August 23, 2016, 4:01pm Roll over Beethoven is good. Rest are okay.

proper second Beatles album submitted by tisaallen on June 15, 2022, 10:44am The UK release (original US releases split it up into two lesser albums) features the early Beatles doing their thing with 9 Lennon/McCartney songs, Harrison's forgettable first songwriting contribution and four covers. High-energy pop rock.

Baby Beatles submitted by wilcomea on July 19, 2022, 4:05pm Such a soft spot in my heart for this album, so sweet.

Disappointing, But Only In Retrospect submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2023, 11:54pm This album has the Beatles’ usual early mix of covers and originals, with the Lennon/McCartney compositions serving as the album’s highlights. With the full context of the band’s history and future development, this feels a bit like a placeholder; “All My Loving” and a couple other tracks hold up well against the rest of the group’s early recordings, but despite the incredible energy behind the performances most of the songs aren’t quite up to the standards set on “Please Please Me”. That said, this is disappointing only within the context of the Beatles themselves, and it’s still a solid collection of songs that displays the band’s influences while showing the ways that they were already moving beyond them to create something unique and new.
