COMMUNITY REVIEWS

My favorite collection of Baxter's stories submitted by ccrose on July 18, 2019, 1:00pm So many of Baxter's people are walking through time but not living it very richly. Many experience terrible pain, remorse and seem stuck pushing Prometheus' boulder every day,. My favorite story is of a couple who are cocooned in numbness after their toddler daughter picks up a birthday present, a red bouncy ball, puts it in her mouth and chokes to death.. It's written in that matter of fact voice. The couple suffer alone and together but there is no life in their lives. They go on a road trip to get away from sympathetic people. At a point, one of them experiences a little lightness and the other is bitter that they are far apart, finding their balance.
