Robbie -- Runaround -- Reason -- Catch the rabbit -- Liar! -- Little lost robot -- Escape! -- Evidence -- The evitable conflict.
The three laws of Robotics: 1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm 2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. With these three, simple directives, Isaac Asimov changed our perception of robots forever when he formulated the laws governing their behavior. In I, Robot, Asimov chronicles the development of the robot through a series of interlinked stories: from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future--a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete. Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-read robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world--all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asmiov's trademark.

great book submitted by Ele Z. on August 21, 2011, 3:29pm like it

a good read submitted by btnolan on July 8, 2016, 7:29am Not like the movie at all - thought provoking!

Great submitted by anacoluthon on July 21, 2018, 2:15am One of my absolute favorites. This book is a collection of short stories that help establish the world of Asimov's Robot Novels.

Thought-provoking, but also, frequently silly submitted by terpsichore17 on July 25, 2018, 3:21pm This was far more lighthearted than I expected: it has references to Gilbert and Sullivan, catastrophes narrowly averted, and the puzzling out of logical quandaries. Episodic, quick read.

Amazing Introduction Into Sci-Fi submitted by sfo_16 on June 26, 2023, 3:26pm This book is great! Each chapter is a self-contained story that was originally published as short stories in science fiction magazines between 1940-1950. The book does have an overarching plot but each chapter or story can be read on its own. Asimov is considered the father of robotics in science fiction and this book is a great introduction to the genre. The technology language can get a bit confusing but even without understanding the inner workings of the robots you can understand the major conflicts and general plot. It should also be noted that while Isaac Asimov considered himself a feminist, he was also known for frequently sexually harassing women. While his contributions to sci-fi have been notable, it's important to also be aware of his inappropriate behavior towards women.
