Classic Ashbery submitted by redwood on August 9, 2022, 8:03am One of the things I like about reading John Ashbery, whose work I’ve come back to sporadically over the years, is that I often don’t know what he’s talking about. Yet there is always a propulsion to his work, a current of syntax and a deep preoccupation with the complexities of living, that pulls me through. Sometimes being alive is impenetrably, but undeniably, beautiful.
