Quiet Musings about Navajo Life
submitted by sdunav on July 12, 2011, 8:46pm
An old Newbery winner (published in 1931), this isn't as dated as you might expect - though the term "roadster" did leap out at me. It's written in a very stream-of-consciousness manner, and is basically the coming of age story of a Navajo boy who feels drawn to the big questions in life, and is following in his uncle's footsteps as a ceremonial singer ("medicine man").
I was surprised how much I liked this story - I thought it was going to be a complete snooze-fest. My kids - and I suspect many, many kids - *would* think it was a complete snooze-fest, though.
