I love visual storytelling! submitted by rea2mill on June 20, 2022, 12:13am Anno’s illustrations are so much fun to explore! He carries over small details from one page to the next creating little mini stories, but always out of unassuming small details so you have to hunt for them. It feels very rewarding when you spot one, much like finding Waldo in a Where’s Waldo book, except that there’s no list of things you have to find, so you never feel like you failed, just like you scored when you find some hidden gem. And the illustrations are so beautiful that you can really just enjoy them as art. A wonderful wordless visual storytelling book!

Much to See on Every Page submitted by Meginator on July 4, 2022, 9:04am This wordless picture book may seem simple, but its pictures are carefully crafted around detailed textures, employing varied storytelling techniques and incorporating elements of European folklore to craft a compelling idealized portrait of the continent and its stories. The book follows a traveler, presumably a stand-in for the author, as he arrives on an unfamiliar shore and journeys through farming communities and small villages that eventually give way to crowded urban areas. Anno takes inspiration from several (mostly Western European) cultures, with nods to specific fairy tales and other details creating a bit of an I-spy element that rewards close attention. The book is straightforward yet fascinating in its own fascination with a foreign culture.
