AADL-GT Pad Logo

Welcome back to the world of AADL-GT! Some weeks have passed since the tumultous Grand Championships and the end of the 2006 season; now it's time to look forward and talk about what worked and what didn't going into Season 4. If you want to be a part of this discussion, please join us this Saturday, 2/10, from 1-4 PM at the Pittsfield Branch Library behind the Ice Cube on Oak Valley Drive. We'll have plenty of open play, food, spirited discussions, a preview of the 2006 GC DVD, and your chance to be interviewed for bonus features on the disc. Please note that aged-out players (Seniors) are absolutely welcome at this event; your experienced input is invaluable to us, and we especially want to get interviews with as many graduating players as we can. We hope to see you all there! Read on for some items I'd like to discuss.

Poke-Mom Report: Pokemania super-effective against holiday boredom!

My improbable conversion to a Poke-Mom was foretold a decade ago, when both Pokemon and our son Michael were born. My conversion was completed the week after Christmas 2006, following full immersion in the music, color and magic of the four-day holiday Pokemon tournament led by Eli, a near god in the eyes of Poke-moms, dads and kids.

Eli was managing library technology, while acting as tournament commentator for crowds of kids and parents at the downtown library: “Rayquaza’s Hyper Beam attack was a powerful hit against Swampert . . . Ohhhhhh! Swampert fainted!” Eli’s dramatic, deep-voice Poke-narration sealed my status as a Poke-mom of Great Conviction. I wasn’t there for the whole tournament, but I definitely saw and heard enough to absorb the spirit. For my full report, click on read more below.

AADL-GT 2006 Season Wrapup: FJW FTW

AADL-GT Pad Logo

It's all over! The 2006 AADL-GT Super Smash Double Dash Championship Season has drawn to a close, and the Grand Champion was [gtplayer:737], who fought his way through 20 grueling matches, past formidable veterans and hopeful noobs alike, to win the final Kart Race on the infamous Baby Park Oval and claim the grand prize: a Brand-New Nintendo Wii! FJW's clan, We Are Hard, was not as successful in the 2006 Clan Cup event, losing in the Semifinals despite going into the Clan Cup with the highest score, while the #4 ranked Pocket Rockets came from behind to deliver a thorough drubbing to the ever-solid Bros & Co to take victory. With our biggest season yet behind us, let's take a few minutes to reflect on the top stories of the 2006 season, and start thinking about how next season can be even better.

Full Grand Championship Details!

The AADL-GT 2006 Grand Championships are just under two weeks away, and if you're thirsty for details about the event, you're in the right place. The Grand Championships will happen Saturday, December 16th at the Downtown Library and will consist of three events: The Clan Cup Finals at 12:00 sharp, The Wildcard Tournament starting around 12:45, and then the Grand Championship Tournament itself beginning around 2:00-3:00 depending on wildcard turnout.

The Grand Championship Prize pool WILL contain a BRAND-NEW, HARD-TO-GET Nintendo Wii! Plus, a 2gb iPod nano, and a onyx black Nintendo DS. The champion, second and third place winners get to pick from the prizes in order. AADL-GT Round 4 Results: Bros & Co Triumphant!

AADL-GT Pad Logo

Ann Arbor, Michigan. A cold, grey, Saturday Afternoon in November. Surely, nothing could be as important to the sports fans of Michigan as watching Round 4 of AADL-GT 2006 Super Smash Double Dash Championship Series Live on TV! Right? Of course. However, this was this other game going on, some football game or something, so turnout at last weekend's tournaments was a bit low. All the big guns were present, though, so in the absence of any distinct power vacuum, this season's regulars mostly skated to victory through diminished ranks of hopefuls. When all was said and done, Bros & Co took their first Clan Battle victory from Turtle Clan over a spirited round of Gauntlet, setting the stage for an intense Clan Cup next month. Read on for full tournament results.

DDR, Mario Kart and Super Smash Tournaments: This Weekend!

AADL-GT Pad Logo

If you can pry yourself away from your new console -- or get someone to save your spot in line -- come to the Downtown Library this weekend for a series of Videogame Tournaments for all ages! First, we'll have a Dance Dance Revolution Tournament for All Ages, Friday, 11/17, from 6-8:30 PM. We'll have prizes for 1st and 2nd place in the Standard/Heavy Level, as well as a prize for the best Adult / Child Team!

We'll then proceed to the final regular season round of the Super Smash Double Dash Championship Series, Saturday, 11/18, from Noon - 5 PM. This is the last chance for a clan to qualify for the December Clan Cup and Grand Championships, unless you want to take your chances with the wildcards, so bring your best thumbs! Also, this event will be televised live on CTN channel 18, and we all know that all of Ann Arbor will be glued to their Televisions to watch this event this Saturday! Right? Anyone? Be sure to bring a release form if you haven't already.

Finally, we'll have a Kid's Kart TEAM Tournament for Grades 5 and under, Sunday, 11/19, from 1-4 PM, with prizes for the two best teams at the tournament, along with open play. Hope to see you there! Read on for more details.

The 2006 Super Smash Double Dash Championship season continued last weekend with Round 3 at the Downtown Library. Many events came down to standoffs between our top players, and with only 1 round remaining in the regular season, the competition for a precious spot in the Grand Championships is heating up. The Round 3 Clan battle was once again won by emerging supertitans We Are Hard, who handily defeated the dubiously-chosen representatives of Bro's & Co. More on that later, but first read on for full event details.
